Expelled: No Intellegence Allowed – Review
By Bradposted: April 25th, 2008
This movie is not about the debate between Intelligent Design and Evolution. This movie was about exactly what it should have been about: freedom of speech. The idea that one can have an idea and speak about it without having to live in fear of their job and harassment. There is very little ID evidence presented in this film, but what is presented, I believe, is much more important.
Ben Stein did an excellent job in his position. He was critical and skeptical, which anyone making a documentary like this has to be in order to be taken seriously. He spoke with leaders on both sides of the fence. Each of their interviews equally enlightening.
He clearly showed how several professors have been “black balled” for questioning Darwinian Evolution. They interviewed a few others who knew they would be fired if they did speak out about it. One of them was quoted saying “We do our research based on Intelligent Design principles but we are not allowed to give any such credit to it in our results.” I found that the most interesting and wondered how many scientific principles align more with Intelligent Design than the Darwinian evolutionary concept of natural selection.
The scientists, each of them very educated and credentialed professors, were not asking that Intelligent Design be the dominant theory, they were simply asking to be allowed to be skeptical of Darwinism. Though the Evolutionists interviewed clearly showed their prejudices of ID scientists, those interviewed did not fall into the categories that they laid out for all ID scientists. The evolutionists seem to have a misconception of ID scientists. Though some may fall into the category they layout, it is obvious that not all of them do. The ones interviewed were highly credentialed professors, one with tenure. Some did not ascribe themselves to any certain religion and certainly were not ignorant on the topic as Dawkins so arrogantly stated.
The evolutionists have the upper hand in Academia and the media and they are using it to crush any questioning or skepticism of their theory. They demand it is fact even if they can’t prove it. They say it is as much fact as gravity, yet most of it contains theories that are disproven and modified daily.
Evolution deserves skepticism as much as any other theory. It was the point of this film to show that ID scientists are being discriminated against. It was successful in its venture.
I want to address the box office numbers quickly. They do seem low for what was expected, though honestly I don’t know why they are so low. I couldn’t get a ticket in Westminster, CO last weekend and had to wait till this weekend to get in and even this weekend I had to sit up front so that Ben’s head was certainly larger than life. So I don’t know where it is doing poorly but it certainly isn’t here.
Go see the movie. It is about what America claims to stand for. The freedom of speech we all hold to so dearly. It is under attack and needs to be addressed.
